Anti-Frieze, get your anti-Frieze…

Posted on October 11, 2012

The Tatinger will flow, the faux wide-rimmed spectacles will be pushed down discerning noses and vast amounts of money will be exchanged. Yep it’s that time of year again – the Frieze Art Fair is here.

Up in Regent’s Park, London’s international contemporary art bazaar will have already become a hive of activity for 175 of the world’s leading galleries and those looking to purchase their latest wares. Last year German artist Christian Jankowski’s  private “superyacht” was available for a mere €65m to buy as boat, and €75m to buy as an artwork.

If you’re short of a few mill this year, or like me you’re too cheap to shell out almost £30 for a day pass to simply gaze upon the latest marvels of the modern art world, then fear not. I present to you my own little array of arty treats. Here are a few of my favourite paintings – just have a browse, pretend you’re in a field, knock back some lambrini and practice your best pensive stare…

Van Gogh – The Starry Night

Wassily Kandinsky – Composition VII

Georges Seurat – Bathers at Asnieres

Alphonse Mucha – Zodiac

Gustav Klimt – Lebensbaum

Emil Nolde – Dark Sea (Grey Sky)

Stanley Spencer – The Garage

Zeng Fanzhi – Marriage

Ukiyo-e print

Jack Vettriano – Singing Butler
